Overview

Summary

The General Purchasing Specialist is responsible for reviewing purchase requisitions from departments, issuing purchase orders and posting invoices. The incumbent also identifies cost saving opportunities, process improvements, and negotiates contractual agreements.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions (To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Analyze and establish contract requirements with the facility and project suppliers
  • Identify potential suppliers and procure materials on time
  • Assist staff and vendors with ordering and purchasing procedures, available funds, etc. for the purpose of providing information and facilitating the purchasing process
  • Contact vendors to verify information and/or respond to inquiries
  • Distributes purchase orders, vendor information, outstanding order logs, etc. for the purpose of providing reference documents for completing the purchasing process
  • Evaluate purchase requisitions and back up documents for the purpose of ensuring proper use of company funds in the acquisition of supplies, equipment and/or services
  • Maintain documents, files, and records to provide up-to-date references and audit trails for compliance
  • Asses supplier’s quotations and proposals and process bids, incoming purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and mail
  • Follow up on open orders / lead times to ensure timely deliveries
  • Receive, evaluate for accuaracy, and post invoices related to all orders placed
  • Research contracts, suppliers, equipment, laws, and regulations in order to recommend purchases and contracts
  • Develop and enforce policies relative to the purchasing activity of the company
  • Comply with and promote safety in the workplace
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required and preferred for this position.)

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, or related field
  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Industrial materials and fabrication suppliers

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Good Communication, analytical, and technical skills
  • Strong negotiation and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills

 

  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Industrial materials and fabrication suppliers

 

Working Conditions:

  • 95% Office; 5% Floor
  • 8 AM – 5 PM (Overtime as needed)
  • Occasional travel (domestic/international) as needed
